Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
