Christantus Uche Fuels Comfortable Crystal Palace Win at Shelbourne.

Even though entering their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a comfortable win that virtually secures them a place in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.

A further victory in their next match against Finland's KuPS should be enough to seal straight passage to the knockout stages, particularly after a prior setback against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Seize the Moment

This occasion provided a platform for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.

A Shelbourne team that had concluded their league season were no match even for a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The visitors were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee problems.

Dominance Established from the Start

Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple tap-in.

Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, driving a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.

The formerArsenal man didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.

The home side were hanging on for dear life. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring with his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.

Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
